Congratulations go out to the 2016 Chicago Cubs for their winning of the 2016 World Series against the Cleveland Indians. The 108 year drought has ended but to give some perspective about how long ago that was I thought it would be fun to see what kind of airplanes were flying back in 1908.
Zeppelin announces plans to build an airship. Farmin flies 1 kilometer at a height of 25-30 feet in a Voisin 1907 biplane
1908 AEA Red Wing flies 319 feet Charles Furnas becomes the first U.S. passenger, 1905 Wright Flyer
A new Wright Model A flyer. The flight lasts 1 minute 11 seconds Samuel Cody flies a British Army Aeroplane No. 1
Goupy No.1, the world’s first triplane Antoinette IV
Glenn Curtiss is awarded the Scientific American trophy for being the first person in the United States to make a public flight of over 1 km (0.62 mi) in the AEA June Bug It’s pretty amazing how far aviation has progressed since 1908! We now have airplanes that will fly faster than the speed of sound, they can fly without pilots on board, even fly around the world non stop and non refueled (December 14–23, 1986, Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager).
